Let us see if we can do it this time.
Pizza Dough
Homemade pizza dough is definitely worth a little effort. Not only is it more cost-effective than store-bought dough, but you also have control over the ingredients, allowing you to create a healthier and tastier pizza. This recipe yields 1 pound of dough. I prefer to make it in larger batches and store a few balls in the freezer. That way, every night can be pizza night!
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour, preferably bread flour but all-purpose will work as well
- 1 1/4 tsp yeast, instant or rapid rise
- 1 tsp sugar
- 3/4 tsp salt,
- 1 tbsp olive oil, extra virgin
- 3/4 cup warm water
Instructions
By hand:
- Mix the dry ingredients (flour, yeast, sugar, and salt) in a large bowl. In a separate bowl or pitcher, combine the water and olive oil. Gradually add the water and oil mixture to the dry ingredients until a smooth, sticky ball forms and all the flour is absorbed. Let the dough rest for 10 to 15 minutes, then continue kneading until you have a smooth, round ball. Place the dough in a large, lightly greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise until it has doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
With a mixer:
- Mix the dry ingredients (flour, yeast, sugar, and salt) in a mixer bowl. Gradually add water and then oil to the dry ingredients until a nice, sticky ball is formed and all the flour is absorbed. Remove the dough from the mixer and continue to knead by hand for 1 minute until you have a smooth, round ball. Place the dough in a large, lightly greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
